Development Process

Option Period (3-6+ years)
Landowners continue the current use of the property — whether that's farming, grazing, industrial or commercial operations, or any other existing use. Clean Grid conducts environmental studies, completes the interconnection process, negotiates the power purchase or capacity agreement, and works through permitting and zoning. Larger battery storage projects may require longer option periods depending on interconnection queue timing.
Construction Period (~6-12 months)
Clean Grid takes full use of the leased property to build the project. Landowner use of the leased area pauses during this stage. Any unleased portion of the property remains available for normal use throughout.
Operations Period (20+ years)
The project enters commercial operation. Standard lease terms run 20 years, with built-in extension options that can carry the agreement out further. Landowners receive scheduled payments throughout the operating life of the project.
Decommissioning Period (~6-12 months)
At the end of the operating period, Clean Grid removes all project infrastructure and restores the land to preconstruction conditions. The cost of decommissioning is bonded or otherwise secured under the lease — landowners are not financially responsible for project removal.
