How It Works

How It Works

1. Initial Conversation

We'll discuss your potential interest in a solar or battery storage project, lease and purchase options, and general terms. We'll also walk through what to expect at each stage so you can decide whether to move forward.

2. Grid Feedback

If you're interested, we'll fund and submit a request to your utility to evaluate the capacity of the nearest substation or distribution line. Their response tells us whether a project is technically viable on your land — and at what scale. Once we have answers, we'll call you back to share what we learned and discuss next steps.

3. Execute Lease or Purchase Agreement

We'll review the final terms and execute the lease or purchase agreement. Under either path, the landowner continues to use the land through the option period without interference. During that time, Clean Grid handles environmental studies, interconnection applications, permitting, zoning, and the other diligence work that brings a project from concept to construction-ready.

What We're Looking For

Proximity to grid infrastructure

Substations, transmission lines, or 3-phase distribution — the closer the better.

Buildable land

Relatively flat, with limited wetlands, floodplains, or endangered species habitat.

Right-sized acreage

Sizing depends on the project type: Community Solar runs 20-40 acres, Transmission Solar 200+ acres, Distribution-Scale Battery about 0.25 acres, and Transmission-Scale Battery 20-30 acres.

Clean title and clear access

Land that can be leased or sold without encumbrances that prevent development.

What We're Looking For

Relatively flat land

Close to existing transmission infrastructure and/or 3-phase power lines

Limited wetlands or floodplain areas

20+ contiguous acres

No endangered species habitat
